Ave Maria University
Construction has started for Ave Maria Catholic Church, university and town. Located South of Immokalee, off Oil Well Road, phase one will cover 960 acres and is projected to be ready for students and residents by 2006. The entire project eventually could cover some 4500 acres, according to plans. The 150-foot-high church will be able to seat 3300 people. Plans show the university will serve 1200 students with classrooms, student housing, a technology center, a student recreation center, a performing arts center, five undergraduate dormitories, two graduate dormitories, and a library with 420,000 volumes of books. It will have 350 faculty staff members. A private school for grades kindergarten to 12th grade, an estimated 400 homes and the landmark church are all part of phase one and will cost $240 million. The City of Golden Gate is centrally located in Naples and just west of Collier Blvd. (Rt. 951).
